Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old Harvard graduate who stole the show during the inaugural ceremony of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, is plucking the fruit of her breathtaking performance.

First, it was an unexpected call from David Wilson, president of Morgan State University, who offered the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history a role at the historically-black institution. It happened the very day Gorman stole the heart of everyone who saw her read her poem “The Hill We Climb.” The Morgan State president’s tweeted:

“Ms. Gorman, I need you as our Poet-in-Residence at the National Treasure, @MorganStateU Outstanding!!!!! Consider this a job offer!”

Wilson told the Baltimore Sun the offer was spontaneous but genuine:

“I was glued to the TV as I was watching her,” Wilson also, adding:

“I’m very serious about opening an opportunity for her to come here as a poet in residence. We have all kinds of authors on campus, and we think that being at Morgan for a year would give her an even deeper and wider perspective on the issues she is addressing. If she would accept this offer, I would move on it in a heartbeat. I will be watching my emails.”

At the time of this writing, Gorman has not yet responded to the offer. It is being speculated that she is fielding several offers resulting from her outstanding performance.

The now-star poet has earned high reviews from across the media, the academic world and the entertainment world, and has been become a social media sensation.

Some respected names in the cultural fields have drawn comparisons between her and iconic late black poet Maya Angelou. Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has tweeted: “I have never been prouder to see another young woman rise! Brava Brava, @TheAmandaGorman! Maya Angelou is cheering – and so am I.”

The youngest-ever inaugural poet earned high reviews from across the media, academic, and entertainment fields after her reading at the inauguration.

During an appearance on on The Late Late Show, she told show host James Corden about the aftermath of her inaugural performance:

“I don’t think I really can process it. To kind of give you a metaphor for that, my phone is like on fire. It is so hot. It just gave up on itself like three hours ago. And for you to understand that, I was outside in the cold and my phone was that hot with the amount of support and just love that was coming for my words, and that was just incredible.”

And that includes her two books climbing to the top of amazon-bestseller-list.

According to Amazon, her two books, Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem and The Hill We Climb, have skyrocketed to number 1 and 2 on the Amazon books chart. Because the books are not yet available, the pre-orders for the books have flown through the roof.

She tweeted yesterday about the book sales:

“I AM ON THE FLOOR MY BOOKS ARE #1 & #2 ON AMAZON AFTER 1 DAY! Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me and my words. As Yeats put it: “For words alone are certain good: Sing, then.”
