Ethiopian Airlines to resume flights to Atlanta

Ethiopian Airlines announced two days ago that it will resume flights to Atlanta on May 21. The carrier suspended that route last month reportedly due to poor financial performance.
In a news release obtained by The African Magazine, Mesfin Tasew Bekele, the airline’s CEO, wrote, “Atlanta is one of the most vibrant markets in the United States, and Ethiopian Airlines is delighted to bring this route back into its network.”
He did not discuss the reason for the suspension but added, “The route serves growing demand from business travelers, members of the African diaspora, and tourists seeking convenient access to destinations across the African continent.”
At the time of the suspension’s announcement, the carrier said it would resume the route in June; but it’s about to happen ahead of schedule.
The Addis Ababa-Atlanta route, which was launched in 2023, is the only connection between East Africa and Atlanta. Tickets are already on sale for the route.
