It was an electrifying atmosphere typical of major events. In a large room full to capacity, past and present officials of Rotary International, the organization’s rank and file, friends and family members from near and far rubbed elbow on July 19 in Abuja to celebrate the investiture of Amara Chidinma Ezediniru as the 22nd President of Rotary District 9125.

Deeply committed to making a difference, Ezediniru, a renowned expert in HR consultancy, strategic leadership, and workforce optimization for exponential development, joined the Rotary family in August 2017. She has served over the years in various capacities in the Rotary Club of Apo, popularly called the Power Club. She held the positions of Club Secretary, Club Admin, and Welfare Chairman, showcasing her dedication to fostering a sense of community and social responsibility. Her involvement extends to district-level committees, including media and training, where she has made notable contributions. She has also attended local and international conferences, completing her graduate course with the Rotary Leadership Institute.

A respected educator, she came from a strong academic background, having completed her education at prestigious institutions, including the Federal Government Girls College Gboko, the University of Maiduguri, the University of Nottingham, the National Open University of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Defence Academy. She holds multiple degrees in marketing, human resources management, education, and business administration.

In his presentation titled “The Wheel of Hope in our Community,” the keynote speaker for the occasion, Rotarian Dr. Prince Segun Obayendo, CEO of Temple Group Ltd, eulogized Rotary’s activities over the years and charged the new president to do more life-impacting projects and also build more relationships that will impact individually and collectively. For his part, Alhaji Lukman Abdullahi, the event’s chairman and CEO of Loat Nigeria Ltd, reminded everyone of his days as a Rotaractor in college and how the platform of Rotary taught him to do good to his neighbor. He eschewed the qualities of the new president while encouraging her to keep up her good work.

Other dignitaries who graced the event with their presence included Immediate Past District Governor, Rtn Dr. Goddy Nnadi; Past District Governors, Rtn Dr. Victor Onukwugha; and Rtn Embee Nnoka.

Ezenidiru was surrounded by her close friends, associates, neighbors and family as she took the office. She pledged to keep the Rotary Wheel rotating as she unveiled her project tiled “Hope for the People of Yankoji.”

Ezediniru says she joined Rotary family just at a time she needed quality people in her circle. She confided that being a Rotarian has consistently helped her mental wellness. Not surprisingly, the new president of the Rotary Club of Apo has made mental wellness one of her priorities. “Not just because it is in alignment with the direction of the Rotary International President, Gordon R. Mclnally,” she says, “but it is an essential ingredient for remaining a Rotarian.” Ezenidiru adds: “Rotary embodies love, empathy, sacrifice, and humanity, which artificial intelligence cannot provide. It is crucial for humanity to increase its humanity.”
